Put together during lockdown, No Hope New World is the "debut" album from outsider groove merchant SOUTH, released via Floating World. We'll leave it to the artist himself to shed some light:

"It's harder to say what No Hope New World actually is than what it represents. It's actually sort of a false start; it has no right to exist. Thematically, I guess it touches on black resilience and a kind of ambient fatigue or numbness: sometimes, it feels like tiredness and exhaustion is humanity's default, especially right now when everything's collapsing, but for most people of colour, it's a familiar or even constant sensation. Better still, maybe it just represents all these sonic frustrations in a world where the safest place is on your sofa indoors, (re)watching old episodes of the Simpsons. I haven't really thought that hard about what No Hope New World means; in some respects, the title alone sums it up.

Personally, I'm just providing people with opportunities to travel through electronic alt-realities, as rooted in intuition as it is in mathematics - plus one certified banger for when the nights and weekends are less empty, or for when WhatsApp doesn't deliver calm or dopamine, when you're not sharing hours with friends. Or something. None of it matters unless you feel something.

After all, feeling something feels unreachable and opaque lately, long before we all became reacquainted with the word 'quarantine'."
